Today, the Marble Mountain Ski & Ride Club serves as a community-driven organization dedicated to supporting and growing year-round recreation at Marble, ensuring future generations can enjoy the same opportunities that inspired our founders nearly 100 years ago.
As we look to the future, we remain guided by the legacy of those early pioneers who cleared trails, built cabins, and created opportunities for others to experience the mountain. Their vision continues to inspire our mission: building community, fostering active and healthy lifestyles, and nurturing a lifelong connection to Marble Mountain and the outdoors.
Our History
The Marble Mountain Ski & Ride Club proudly carries a skiing tradition that stretches back a century in Western Newfoundland.
Long before Marble Mountain, local skiing enthusiasts were laying the foundation for organized skiing in the region. In 1929, the Winter Sports Section of the Corner Brook Sports Club built the first ski run in Corner Brook near East Valley Road, introducing generations of residents to the excitement and challenge of the sport.
As enthusiasm for skiing continued to grow, community members came together to establish the Corner Brook Ski Club. Formed on October 18, 1938, under the leadership of its first president, John Frisch, the club quickly got to work creating new opportunities for local skiers. Members cleared a 400-foot ski hill at Twin Lakes (now Massey Drive) and constructed a ski cabin that officially opened on January 7, 1939. These early volunteers laid the groundwork for a vibrant skiing culture that would lead to the development of Marble Mountain.
